Debuted in April 2010, at Anime Boston. Scheduled to be worn to Connecticon 2010 as well.
Super Smash Brothers Brawl is one of my favorite, and most frequently played video games. Though Sheik is not my most often chosen fighter, she seemed to be the perfect cosplay for my body type and personality. I am also a huge fan of the Legend of Zelda series, and though Sheik was not featured in Twilight Princess, her updated character design made it into Brawl as the alter-ego of the new Princess Zelda.
Constructing the Costume:
Like many Anime and Video Game characters, Sheik’s clothing is elaborate, skin tight everywhere, and has no openings or fasteners to get in an out. So where to begin? I spent a lot of time thinking about how I would put together this outfit so that it would hug my curves and stil
l come off of me without the aid of scissors. The reason this was such a challenge is that I could not find periwinkle lycra ANYWHERE. Or at least not in unitard form, which is what I originally preferred. It just wasn’t in season. So instead, I bought a pair of black leggings and made a periwinkle shirt out of stretch cotton. I only made the very top of the shirt, and the mid-section is actually a corset made from heavy home-decor fabric that you might use to upholster furniture. The corset laces in front, underneath the white poncho. The leg-armor is made from the same cotton jersey as the shirt, and is finished with rolled tulle.
The shoes, arm bands, and gauntlets were made from various knits, which yarn could be passed through to create the illusion of lacing. I made the small decorative fasteners out of sculpi, and painted the poncho with fabric paint. This costume involved a great deal of hand-stitching and detailing. It was super comfortable to wear and easy to walk like a boy in. Which was necessary because this is a very masculine–even androgynous–female character.
I wore this costume to Anime Boston 2010 with my boyfriend who was cosplaying as Ike from the same, Super Smash Brothers Brawl. We had some really nice photos taken of us that you can view at the bottom of this page. Click to make them larger.
After making a few small improvements to the wig and the leg armor, I brought this costume to Connecticon 2010 for the Cosplay Chess event and a Legend of Zelda Photoshoot with Keith Cristal.

Could you take a front view side view and back view of this cosplay! Cause this cosplay is so amazing, and I can’t find a good reference ANYWHERE. I never se the back view >.< if you could I would soo appreciate it :')
This would be so majorly helpful!
I’m having trouble making the padding around my upper arms and the mid section without having it look like my hips are ginormous. For the arms, I couldn’t figure out how to get the irregular kind of shapes to. Honestly, the whole thing was kind of a rough draft. If you wouldn’t mind giving me extra details for a how-to that would be great! Mine is a dark sheik version and I can send you more info if need be. I just need to finish it before mid January. Thanx!
Hi, I was wondering.. do you still use this cosplay? because if you dont i would be more than happy to buy it for you hahahaha
its fantastic! and I would make one of my own but i have 0 knowledge, talent, or tools about sewing and frankly its just easier and probably cheaper this way. ive found some selling but idk they look cheap and not even close to this thats all im gonna say hahahaha
so yes.
if youre thinking of/want to/willing to sell it I would love to buy it from you 🙂
well, if its in my size hahahaha
Well, what’s your size? I’m a size 0, and so is the costume… The smallest thing on me is my waist at 23inches. If you’re close enough to make it a possibility, we can speak further.
ah.. I dont thinj that will work then hahahaha ha
my waist is 29 hahaha
but I am a size 4-8 (depending on the make or designer. dumb sizes bein dumb like always)
but my hips are 38 inches so yeah
ah, it also depends where youre from! the sizes might differ dependig on the countries
I am from the US. My hips are like….34.5 inches.
ah well. that probably wont work then unless its stretchy or loose.but it was worth a shot!
Thanks! This helped a lot with my sheik cosplay! Very nice work! 🙂
Do you sell the costume in any other size?
No, I only made the one costume.
How much would you sell the costume for? (We are the same size)
At least a couple hundred; it’s a one of a kind and was quite labor intensive to make.
Hello,
I just wanted to say thank you for posting this! It’s super helpful, in helping me with my current(and first) cosplay! I originally went with compression clothing, but it got difficult finding a good fit, and opted for leggings and a girls small cotton/elastane long sleeve. And found some cheap, faux-leather laced vambraces. But this helped with how to approach more of the finer details! I was pretty intimidated when I decided to start this. But again, this was a big help! Thanks so much😄
