Debuted Anime Boston 2008
Bodice:
I started with a black and flesh-toned leotard for Kraehe’s dress. I added a key-hole and more flesh colored lycra to the middle to make it look like her crazy, physically impossible bodice. I had a fun time trying to match the two skin colors……
Tutu: So the Tutu is made up of two main components. I have a hoop layer, covered in feathers, and attached to a basque. And then I have a tulle tutu that sits on top of that, under my dress. If I had the money and the time and knew where to find petticoat net, I would have tried that instead, but oh well.
Shoes:
Since pointe shoes are not comfortable to be walking around in for two-three days, I opted for slippers. The kind you walk around the house in, though these look like ballet slippers. However the bottoms of them would not stand up to a convention, so I covered the bottoms in painted-black canvas. That way I’ll have some traction, and I won’t completely ruin the slippers over the course of the weekend.
Wig:
For this wig i started with a shoulder-length dark brown wig that I bought from Amphigory. I cut in more bangs and seperated a long thick piece in the back from the rest of the hair, and temporarily tied it to the top of the wig. Then I cut
the rest of the wig to the correct, short, length. Next I worked on styling the front of the wig and I added a few extensions in the back to cover a little exposed mesh. Then I build a suport system out of pipe-cleaners to hold up that vertical pony-tail. I glued the hair to the pipe cleaners with tacky glue, hairspray, and got2B. Then I added decorations to the base of the pony-tail such as fake flowers and feathers. I tried to get the hair accurate to the character, and somewhat realistic and flattering to my face. The best thing about this wig is that its close enough to my hair color that I don’t need to color my eyebrows or the hair around my ears.
In the end, I had a blast wearing this costume. It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty happy with it.
hey, looking up Rue cospay, i came across a picture of your Rue wig. looking apon it i realised that i would never be able to find or make something like that. This upcoming year for metrocon im trying my best to either be Rue or Princess Tutu. anyway i could perhaps buy the wig from you?
I was looking up a Princess Tutu wig and came across this one. If there was any chance you could make me a nice Tutu wig – you did such a good job on this one – I would love to buy it.
If you would like to commission me, I would be happy to make a wig for you. Do you need a Kraehe wig or a princess tutu wig? Send me an email at Shauna@shaunart.net
Hi, Im planning to cosplay as Princess Kraehe this november at a con, and so I’ve been searching the net on how to do her wig (which looks quite tricky to do) and so I came along your blog – Your wig looks really good (the best I’ve seen on the internet) and I was just wondering, if it’s not too much trouble are you able to take a couple of photos of the wig from other angles and email them to me? (ie side, back, birds eye view etc) Because it would be so helpful in trying to create her hairstyle and I’d appreciate it so much! Thanks 😀
I think this is what you’re looking for: http://www.flickr.com/photos/shaunart/5149468984/in/set-72157625319475280
Let me know if the link doesn’t work.
How much is it to buy a wig from you?
I charge $20 per hour for styling plus the cost of the wig, shipping, and any special supplies. Most wigs only take 1-3 hours to cut and style.
I love that Wig, its incredible!
